The Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney’s Development and Fundraising Team is seeking a team of volunteers to assist with numerous appeals and events throughout the year including preparations for the celebration of the Canonisation of Mary MacKillop. Duties include handing out information at events, making up kits, assisting with special mail outs and miscellaneous clerical work. St Aloysius Gonzaga Parish at Cronulla is hosting a Men Alive Retreat weekend on the 11th and 12th September 2010 at the Cronulla Parish.
 
The Men Alive Retreat team have been very much involved in reaching out to men in Parishes across Australia, helping them grow in faith and so become more involved in Parish life.  They now have 6 years experience.  They are approved by the Archdiocese of Sydney and have already conducted successful retreats in Sydney.
 
All men from across the Shire Parishes (ages 15 years and up) are invited to attend the weekend at Cronulla.  It promises to be a great opportunity for men to meet new friends, but also to be challenged to think more deeply about their faith.

Would you like to help refugee children? - Here is your opportunity!  This is your last chance to join SPARK in 2010 to help support refugeechildren in schools!
 
SPARK (St Vincent de Paul Society Assisting Refugee Kids)provides refugee children and their families with community, educational and social support through primary schools. The program runs every school term at 12 schools in Parramatta, Wentworthville, Auburn, Pendle Hill, Regents Park, Granville, Guildford, Old Guildford, and Girraween.
SPARK is currently recruiting and training volunteers from high schools, universities and the local community to assist with the Bright Sparks program. Bright Sparks isa homework and activities club for Kindy - Year 6 Students, providing homework tutoring and English support.  The program is run once a week for 1.5 hours after school from 3 - 4.30pm.
Upcoming FREE training sessions for the program will be held in Parramattaon Friday 1st October and Saturday 9th October.
By volunteering with SPARK you will be part of a very rewarding program that provides much needed assistance to refugee children and their families. No teaching qualifications or experience are required, as training is provided. We are looking for people who are enthusiastic, friendly and patient and who love working with children.

Mary MacKillop Canonisation 17 October – Events at St Mary’s Cathedral
All are welcome to attend the events planned at the Cathedral for this day:
·         12pm-5pm: Festival of Faith – a whole host of activities for a family day out hosted by the Knights of the Southern Cross.
·         5pm-6.30pm: Commemorative Feast Day Mass, presided over by Bishop Julian Porteous – streamed live on the web and televised to the nation. Also screened to Cathedral forecourt.
·         7pm-9.30pm: Canonisation Ceremony – Live webcast of the Canonisation ceremony from Rome in Cathedral forecourt. Families welcome. BYO picnic blanket. Sausage sizzle commences at 6.30pm.
