St John Bosco Parish Taize Prayer Evenings are held monthly at Our Lady Help of
Christians Church at John Paul Village – 15 The Avenue Heathcote.
They are always held on the 2nd Friday night of each month at 7pm.
These prayer evenings set out to create a quiet, reflective, candle-lit atmosphere
conducive to personal reflection, prayer and contemplation. Scripture and gentle
prayerful musical chants are a feature of the prayer. In the busyness and hectic pace of
life in the 21st century, sometimes it’s not so easy to find the quiet space we need to
allow God to nurture our souls. These evenings are an opportunity at least for one hour
per month to sit calmly and in openness, to allow our God to love us!
The evenings are based on the same kind of prayer formula used in the Taize community in France. Pilgrims by the thousands come from all over the world (particularly young people, but those of us too who are older are also welcome :)) in order to experience and be one with the prayer of the community who lives there. The community was originally formed to pray for peace and reconciliation in the world in contexts from the very personal to more global issues.
The Taize community in France is an ecumenical community made up of brothers from various denominations. In line with the vision of its founder Br Roger, our monthly prayer evenings at Heathcote are also ecumenical and open to all denominations. All are welcome.
Bring a cushion for your comfort if you like. The prayer goes for 1 hour. You are welcome to stay for some supper afterwards or you may choose to take the ‘stillness’ of the service away with you and slip out quietly. Your choice!
Please know you will be very welcome.
