Enrollment Ritual for Sacraments

RITUAL FOR CHILD AND PARENT/S CARER/S ENROLLING in the SACRAMENTAL JOURNEY.

These happen during certain masses during Lent.

Priest:  Invites the parent/s carer/s and children to the fonts of water in front of the altar.

Musicians play some gentle music as the children and parents come forward.

 Continue playing softly.

Parent/s Carer/s are invited to pray over their child
All prayed at the same time softly to your child.

  • Parent:
"I pray God guides you as you prepare for your Sacrament."

Parent/s Carer/s invited to Bless their child
All prayed at the same time softly to your child.(Now dip your finger into the holy water and make the sign of the cross on your child’s forehead, as you say )

I make the sign of the cross on your forehead, just as I did at your Baptism,
that God may bless you!

Parent/s Carer/s share a hope with their child
All shared at the same time softly to your child.
  • My hope for you as you prepare for this sacrament is     …................................

  • (Write out your hope and present it to your child as you say it, otherwise they will not remember it.)

Examples: My hope for you as you receive your First Holy Communion is that you come to know Jesus' love for you, through the gift of His Body and Blood.

My hope for you as you receive your Confirmation is that you know God's Holy Spirit blessing you and calling forth your gift of …......... …....... )

Musicians keep playing gentle music until the parents and children have finished.

Priest concludes with:

May God bless you all on your Sacramental journeys.

To our parish community – May God bless and inspire you to find ways to support these parents and children.
In the name of the Father, the Son, & Holy Spirit.        ALL: Amen.
(
Parents and children return to their seats.)
