Vows

Wedding Vows:  (you can choose one of the following or use them as a basis to construct the vows in your words)

  1.   I, _____, choose you, _____, to be my wife (husband). I promise to be true to you in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health. I will love you, cherish you, and  honour you all the days of my life.


  1.   I, _____,choose you, _____,for my lawful wife (husband), to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do us part.


  1. I, _____, choose you, ______, to be my wedded wife (husband). With deepest joy I receive you into my life that together we may be one.     I promise you my deepest love, my fullest devotion, my tenderest care.  And so throughout life, no matter what may lie ahead of us, I pledge to you my life as a loving and faithful husband (wife) for all the days of my life.


  1. I love you, _____, and I know that God has ordained this love. Because of this I desire to be your husband (wife).   Through the pressures of the present and the uncertainties of the future, I promise to be faithful to you.   I promise to love, share, (include dimensions of your promises), …   as long as we both shall live.

Today I give myself totally to you as your husband (wife).


  1. ______, I love you and I know that this love is from God. Because of this, I want to be your husband (wife) so that we might serve Christ together for the rest of our lives. Through all of the uncertainties and trials of the present and future, I promise to be faithful to you and love you. God's Word gives us the perfect example of this love in Christ's death for the Church. I shall try always, with God's help, to show you this same kind of love, for I know that in His sight we will both be one.


  1. ______, as we stand before both God and our family and friends, making public our commitment to one another, I wish to make it known that I recognize first God has chosen me to be one of his children.    I recognize also that He has blessed me and entrusted to me you as my husband (wife).   
    I will love you in as long as He gives us life together, regardless of the circumstances.
    I cannot do this on my own strength, _______, but with God's grace and the love of family of friends, I will always point my life towards these promises;

I, ______, choose you _____ to be my wife, before God who brought us together; to love and cherish you even as Christ loved the Church and gave Himself for it, to lead you and share all of life's experiences with you by following God through them. That through His grace, ____, we might grow together into the likeness of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.

I ______, in faith, honesty and love, choose you, ______, to be my wedded wife, to share with you God's plan for our lives together.  With God's help, to strengthen and guide us in our life, I commit myself to you and us, for better, for worse, in sickness and in health, in joys and in sorrows, until death do we part.

  4. I love you, ______, and I thank the Lord for the love that will bound our hearts and lives together in marriage. I will love, honor and cherish you always as your husband (wife).   I will love you in sickness as in health, in poverty as in wealth, in sorrow as in joy, and will be true to you by God's grace, so long as we both shall live.

  5. Some words or phrases to build your own … The following statements can be used for creating your own personalized wedding vows.   They are not complete on their own …  you need the fundamental elements of the vows to be present.

Some expressions that many add to the above vows.

I affirm the special bond and unique relationship that exists between us, and promise to keep it always alive.

I promise to love you, comfort and encourage you, be open and honest with you, and stay with you as long as we both shall live.

I promise before God and these witnesses to be your loving and faithful (husband/wife) till death do us part.

I promise to love, respect and honor you, sharing your plans and interests, ideals and emotions, through all the trials and tribulations of life, as well as the joyous times, caring for you in lifelong commitment.

I promise to be your confidante, always ready to share your hopes, dreams and secrets.

An example:  

Bride

I, ....................., choose you, ...................., to be my wedded husband. With deepest joy I receive you into my life, that together we may be one.  I promise you my deepest love, my fullest devotion, my tenderest care. I promise to laugh with you, sleep in with you on the weekends and forever support you, the Sharks and Chelsea. And so throughout our lives, no matter what may lie ahead of us, I pledge to you my truest self, my whole heart, my complete trust and faithfulness, for all the days of my life.

Groom

I, ........................, choose you, ................., to be my wedded wife. With deepest joy I receive you into my life that together we may be one.  I promise you my deepest love, my fullest devotion, my tenderest care. I promise to always snuggle you, to make you cups of tea and to encourage your singing and dancing in the car. And so throughout our lives, no matter what may lie ahead of us, I pledge to you my life, my soul and all that I am, for all the days of my life.


Blessing of Rings

Priest

  1. May the Lord bless these rings which you give to each other as the sign of your love and fidelity. Amen.

  2. Lord, bless these rings which we bless in your name. Grant that those who wear them may always have a deep faith in each other. May they do your will and always live together. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

  3. Lord bless and consecrate , ______and , ______in their love for each other. May these rings be a symbol of true faith in each other, and always remind them of their love. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

  4. A possibility:  At the start of the ceremony bring the rings forward – and invite the family and friends to pray a blessing upon the rings – they will be passed around the congregation while the opening prayers – readings and homily are shared – and then collected just prior to the sharing of the vows.  They are now collected by the best man – and brought forth and held by the couple as the Priest prays a blessing upon them.

Couple

1a Take this ring as a sign of my love and fidelity.  In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

2a With this ring I seal my vow of love to you, ______and pray I may fulfill God's plan for us to be one, in the Name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
