POSITION: Sacramental Co-Ordinator

Our vision is for

'Family Centred_Parish Based_School & Catechist Supported’ Sacramental journeys for the Children.

  

Position averages out at one day a week from February 1 2016.   

Rate of pay depending on qualifications.  

The time is flexible except for set Sacramental events in which your presence is required.   


Time frame:

Applications close 5th Nov.

Report back to all applicants by 7th Nov as to whether they are successful in obtaining an interview and arrange times of interview.   

10-14th Nov have interviews.

By 18th Nov. report back to all interviewees.


Background to our Parish Sacramental Programs.

Each year we have approximately

130-140 children for Confirmation.

150 children for First Communion and

150 children for Reconciliation.

These children come from the Catholic and Public Primary schools in our parish.


You will be responsible for the overseeing of the Sacramental Journeys for the Children and working towards our vision.   

  1. This means overseeing registration.  

  2. Overseeing the preparation.

  3. Overseeing the celebrations.

  4. Overseeing the distribution of certificates.

  5. Overseeing the ongoing promotion of the children’s involvement flowing from the sacraments.   Specifically from Confirmation to our Youth Groups and the ministry of lector, and for Communion communicating the possibilities of the Summer and Winter Parish camps and the ministry of Altar Serving.

(The software has been developed for many aspects of this overseeing, however it can always be tweeked.)


Responsibilities:

  • To work as an effective team member, with the parish Priest and other team members (catechists, REC, Sacramental Team, Family Educator)

  • To manage the communication and implementation of people around the parish programs for the sacraments of Reconciliation, Communion and Confirmation, in consultation with the Parish Priest and Sacramental leaders.

  • Maintains the registration records via google forms.   Follows up parents whose forms are incomplete.

  • Communicates with the Sacramental Preparation teams and St John Bosco REC, allowing them access of names for the current enrolments for each sacrament.

  • Maintains a record of current Sacramental team members & volunteers including checking they have appropriate WWCC checks.

  • Communicates regularly with parents detailing sacramental requirements and expectations, important dates eg enrolment procedure, focus sessions, retreat days, Sunday lesson dates for State school families and presentation of Certificates.    You would be required to speak at some of the parent meetings - which can be for groups over 100.

  • Provide a point of contact for parent enquiries about the Parish Sacramental programs

  • In collaboration with the Sacramental Team, School Teachers & REC, supports them when they need support around the planning of the ceremonies.  

  • Facilitates some evaluation of the process of the sacramental programs.  This has not been done except informally by the Liturgy Committee.    

  • Attend Parish/Ministry Group meetings as required.

  • Checks the relevant leaders in each Sacrament have an an order of service for the Sacramental liturgy.    - Bishop’s/Parish Priests approval, mass booklets, certificates, powerpoints


Skills, Experience and qualifications desired in the successful applicant.

  • Active member of the St John Bosco Parish Community.  Committed to Sunday Worship.   Commitment to Catholic Faith and ideals.

  • Is a person of solid reputation in our community.  

  • Is familiar with the parish website and sacramental process in our parish.

  • Has experience in co-ordination of significant numbers of people and complex events.

  • Has appropriate leadership skills to support the gifts of others in ministry.

  • Competence in the use of computers for office application eg powerpoint, excel, word, merging email documents, google platform.

  • Excellent verbal and written, interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Time-management skills and ability to prioritise and multi-task.

  • Work autonomously and be responsible and accountable for own work.

  • Act with tact and discretion, maintaining high levels of confidentiality.

  • Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively in a team environment.

  • Knowledge of pastoral and sacramental theology.
