First Reconciliation

Celebrates the forgiveness of God and calls us to be that forgiveness with each other and for the world.

Our parish sees the Reconciliation Journey in 4 stages. We encourage families to help their children participate in each stage.

First reconciliation registration

We ask families for a $50 contribution towards the cost of the Sacramental program.

Preparation session

Stage 1: Reflection

The session outlines the Sacramental journey for First Reconciliation and is for parents /carers only. Candidates are not required.

At least one parent/carer MUST attend the Parent Reflection Information session are held in the Parish Centre.

Please ensure you sign in at the welcome table upon arrival and collect your pack alternatively print the activities and booklets at home and bring them to your Enrolment Rite and Focus sessions.

Your child's journey starts with an Enrolment Ritual. This beautiful ritual of prayer, blessing and hope which First Reconciliation candidates and their parents / carers MUST attend. Please bring your completed Hope Card with you to give to your child.

The enrolment ritual will be held at Engadine on the following dates:

Stage 2: Preparation

Teacher / Catechist lead learning

St John Bosco Primary School Candidates will begin their preparation at school and can also complete the online preparation session if they wish.

Children from the parish who attend other schools must complete the online preparation session and the activities and booklets below. Preparation sessions are held at Engadine on the following dates:

Please complete a First Reconciliation Focus Session Review once you have attended the session.

We also ask that you attend a weekend Mass at either Engadine or Heathcote on any date. This is not a focus session Mass, we just ask families to attend the Eucharist with the community.

  3. Complete and share your reconciliation coupons with friends and family

Family Reflection Morning

Commencing with Mass at 9.30am, then proceeding to the Parish Centre for morning tea and reflections (when permitted). All First Reconciliation families are invited, however, attendance is not compulsory and places are limited.

The next focus session mass will be:

Stage 3: Celebration

we request all candidates to wear smart casual clothing

There are usually 8 students in each group. The celebration of the Sacrement takes about 25 minutes. Please aim to be at the hall entrance on Hanley field 10 minutes before your given time. People will be available to guide you to the hall.

Stage 4: living

Families are asked to come to any Mass on the below weekend to collect their certificate and for the community to celebrate and congratulate the children.

The celebration will be held on the following dates:


At the Parish Centre where you will be greeted by a member of the Parish Sacramental team.


Bring your forgiveness heart with you.


  • Liturgy with scripture and prayer

  • Child is received by the Priest - after prayer you will be taken to the church where your child will be presented to the priest. Introduce your child and hand your forgiveness heart to the priest.

  • Child shares confession with the priest

  • Child says their penance in the Mazzarello Chapel - child will kneel at the front whilst parents remain at the back praying.

  • Exit and take photos - a special area will be setup for photographs

Once your booklet, activity sheets are completed, please place them in the box at the back of the church 'Completed First Reconciliation Journey sheets' However, the family coupons and Family forgiveness page is for your family to share, hence there is no need to hand those in with the journey booklet.
